Thornfield History and Information Thornfield Rangers (CSASS) was incorporated in August of 1991 as Carolina Single Action Shooting Society, making it the oldest cowboy action shooting club in North Carolina. The club began in Hillsbourgh, NC with nine men and one woman (Boothill Belle) . In 1993 the club relocated to Thornfield Drive, in Ridgeway, VA just across the NC state line. See our location section for directions.
Thornfield is SASS affiliated and all SASS safety rules apply. The club prides it's self on safety, fellowship and having fun. The by-laws of the club list these attributes as objectives. The statement of "safe handling, proper care of firearms.....good fellowship, team play are essentials" in the by-laws goes to show the importance the club places on these attributes in it's members.
It is said of Thornfield "if you can shoot fair at Thornfield, you can shoot GOOD anywhere else". Thornfield has the reputation for the smallest targets in the game.
